Will I be in legal trouble?

I have been renting a home for about 3 years now and recently found out the house was being sold by the owner. We have had a few people look at the house but feel like we need to let them know that some of the things in this home are our as the renters and will not be left behind when we move.

We put in ourselves an extra room for our son, which used to be the dining room. We also installed a garage door opener and key pad, along with large stone pavers which are just laying onto of the deck because it was never finished. However we will leaving the fence which we installed simply because seems pretty ridiculous to try to take it down.

Anywho I was told by a family member that it is illegal to take those things when we leave but I bought them, they do not belong to the owner and I will not leave my belongings.

So is it illegal to take those belongings?
